How Long Do Shrooms Stay In Your System ?

Question :

My friends and I took some shrooms at a party, and now I’m worried about any future drug tests I may have to take. How long before any traces of shrooms are removed from my body?

Answer :

Psylocibin mushrooms (shrooms) can be pretty common at parties. After ingestion, the body won’t feel its effects until it’s metabolized into psilocin.

The effects may start in as little as 15 to 20 minutes, and will hit its “psychedelic” peak in about an hour to an hour and a half. Depending on the person’s constitution and the dosage taken, you may feel effects for up to six to eight hours afterwards.

You’ll be happy to know that most drug tests don’t test for psylocibin or psilocin, because they do not stay long in the system. If you’re positive that you’re being tested for these compounds, here are some average times to remember.

Type of TestDetection Average Time
BloodFive to six hours after ingestion
UrineTwelve to fifteen hours*
HairOne month

* may differ depending on dosage or if person is a chronic user.

If you are taking a blood test, you are in luck - it only detects any traces of shrooms in your system for up to five or six hours after ingestion. This drug testing method is quite uncommon, so don’t expect it.

If you’re taking a urine test, the traces of shrooms in your system will normally be undetectable after about 12 to 15 hours. This is by no means a guarantee, especially if you took a large dose, or you’re a chronic user of shrooms. When taking a urine test, a few days would be a safe passage of time.

A hair test, though, will be able to detect that you took shrooms for up to a month.

Be sure to give some allowance (at least 6-10 hours) for individual differences. The way our body metabolizes shrooms will differ depending on our metabolic system, age, or dosage taken. Good luck.
